“City of baseball” is a documentary that explores both the past and the present of the Italian baseball league. Through interviews with the league’s former and current players, fans and historians, City of Baseball captures the story of how the allied invasion of Italy left behind the all-American pastime to a country which has embraced the sport with enthusiasm.
The production crew was given all-access to the 2002 team of Nettuno, a small resort town on the Tyrrhenian Coast, one hour south of Rome. Nettuno and Anzio were the towns that sustained the January 1944 allied landing, the precursor to the capture of Rome by the Allies the following May. A permanent American military cemetery was built in Nettuno following the liberation of Italy, and the tradition of baseball was handed down to locals who learned the sport from the occupying troops. Today, Nettuno is well-known as a summer destination for tourists, for its seafood, and for its fifty-year tradition of fielding Italy’s most successful baseball teams.

How do I start a summer baseball camp?
My friend and I are experienced baseball players graduating college in May. We would love to get into coaching baseball and believe starting a summer baseball camp in our hometown of Weymouth, MA would be a great start. The only problem is we do not know the proper procedure to do so. What steps should we take in order to plan our camp? Are there any legal issues we should know about? Any advice would be great.
More power to you. I was wanting to do the same thing. I just don’t have the bread because the liability insurance is a killer.

Is college football a positive influence in American universities? Debating this topic are professors Thomas Palaima and Lino Graglia.
Lino Graglia is the Dalton Cross Professor of Law. Professor Graglia has written that big-time college football is a “fraudulent enterprise.”
Thomas Palaima is the Raymond F. Dickson Centennial Professor and founding Director of the Program in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory in the Department of Classics. He is also UT’s representative to the national Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics.
The event was the second in a series called the Texas Chautauquas, faculty debates on issues of local and national interest that are hosted by the Texas IP Fellows program at the University of Texas at Austin. Texas IP Fellows are Natural Science and Liberal Arts majors who design interdisciplinary minors on topics of personal interest.
